Repairing Canon 50mm f/1.8

The cheapo $100 lens from B&H is one my my favorites paired with my 7D. One day, I dropped it and the Bottom piece of the inner tube popped out and would not go back in with the lens assembled. Researching this, it’s a common problem. Using this guide, perform the following steps:
1. Set to MF mode
2. Remove AF/MF switch
3. Unscrew silver screw with an eyeglass flat head (to avoid buying a cross-tipped J-spec screwdriver)
4. Turn the clasp outwards
5. Turn the focus ring until the inner tube pops out
6. Drop the bottom of the inner tube into the focus ring
7. Place the assembled focus ring and bottom onto the top of the inner tube
8. Press until you hear it fall into place, make sure that the grooves are lined up to ensure a proper seating
9. Turn clasp back inwards
10. Screw on clasp
11. Re-affix AF/MF cover
12. Take a few test shots!
My AF motor is considerably louder now, but it works! I’m excited to have it back. If you have any questions, I allowed photo replies!
